CLASSIC AND MODERN STYLES INSPIRE NEW SCHUMACHER
FABRIC COLLECTIONS FOR SPRING 2008

February 2008 – Schumacher welcomes the Spring 2008 season with the introduction of six new collections offering unique and sophisticated fabrics in its Classic, Elements and Modern range. The looks encompass a diversity of design and include classic luxurious silks and European derived wovens as well as modern designs gathered from sources around the world. These collections are perfect for today’s wide range of interior spaces.

Schumacher Classic

This Spring, Schumacher continues its tradition of beautiful classic design with the launch of four new collections. Each captures the spirit of antique textiles, reinterpreted and updated in color and scale.

Matthew Patrick Smyth

Pont Royal Damask

Renowned interior designer Matthew Patrick Smyth adds his unique sense of classic style and elegance to a new collection of wovens and prints. Based on traditional motifs derived from Matthew’s personal collection of period textiles, discoveries that he made in French design archives, furnishings, and couture apparel, these design have been reinterpreted in clean lines and with a primarily neutral palette. Shimmering silks, detailed embroideries, soft chenille weaves, graphic plaids and textural linen prints all intermingle in shades of chocolate, ivory, graphite, aqua and taupe, as well as accents of indigo blues and rich reds.

The Villa Collection

Lampasso Flori

Born from a treasure trove of antique European textiles, this collection translates these classic and historic designs into a relaxed and casual look, perfect for today’s lifestyles. Exquisite lampasses, heirloom quilts, antique damasks, silks and paisley shawls provided the original inspiration for this group of wovens which are also complemented by some of Schumacher’s new Classic linen prints for this season. Washed finishes are used on some of the cotton fabrics in this collection, giving these wovens the soft genuine look of a time-honored textile. Surface embellishments are also explored throughout this collection, from the look of vintage hand tooled leather in embossed linen, to intricate hand embroidery inspired by white-work textiles. Each design has been colored in palettes that coordinate with the rest of the collection.

2008 Spring - Classic Prints

Margate Damask Print

Aylesbury Vase

This season’s Classic prints have been inspired from antique and classic motifs, building on Schumacher’s heritage of traditional styling. Linen is the focus of these new prints, from unbleached flax grounds to soft linen and cotton blends. The colorations include both new palettes of aqua and cream, indigo blue and white and crisp celery green as well as soft document inspired combinations.

Williamsburg Reserve

Griffin Flower Print

Continuing in its long and distinguished partnership with Colonial Williamsburg, Schumacher introduces this new historic reinterpretation of embroideries, ikats, damasks and simple block prints discovered in Colonial Williamsburg’s rich textile archives. Embroidered designs are translated in cotton and wool yarns onto cotton, linen and velvet grounds. Ikat stripes are recreated with the rustle of silk taffeta. A classic damask take on a lustrous elegant look for draperies in a printed silk quality. These richly textured fabrics are combined with graphic monochromatic prints, using simple floral motifs and a surprising and chic leopard pattern. Classic in heritage but thoroughly up to date in approach, this collection fits a variety of today’s design schemes.

Schumacher Elements

The 2008 Spring collections expand Schumacher’s elemental offerings with an emphasis on natural fibers. The focus is on plains, textures and embroideries in upholstery and drapery weights. These collections are versatile and sophisticated, providing many choices for both the modern and traditional interior.

Naturals/Plains and Patterns

Wight Linen Herringbone

Glenariff Linen Check

This versatile collection combined with simple stripes and checks focuses on a natural look and a neutral palette ranging from white and ivory to greige and flax shades. These textured weaves are offered in a variety of qualities, from curtain to upholstery weight. The yarns used in this collection are natural in both material and coloration and include linen, cotton and jute. Many of the items offered are also produced through environmentally responsible processes.

Breeze/Sheers

Lucia Sheer

Celena Sheer Embroidery

Natural color, weave and fiber are the focus of this new collection of sheers and casements, which also include many embroideries and wider widths. Perfect as a complement to this season’s more upholstery oriented Naturals collections, these introductions bolster Schumacher’s wide array of drapery fabrics. Colorations are mostly neutral shades of white, ivory and parchment, but there are a few soft colors paired with ivory, such as pale aqua and sage.

Schumacher Modern

“This season’s Modern collection continues to take its inspiration from trends seen both in the most current interior design and fashion runways” said Susan North, Vice President for Design at Schumacher. “Glamour is an important element this season and we have captured this look with shimmering silk satin weaves and the use of metallic yarns”.

Surface effects for wovens are explored in a variety of ways: using laser effects to create sculptural looks or cutout patterns on a fabric’s surface or through lace making techniques which are combined with modern materials and motifs. Prints in this season’s collection are simple, but based on bold and graphic patterns, hand printed on a versatile linen and cotton blend.

Urbane Velvets

Velvet Moderne

Squiggle Velvet

This season, Schumacher introduces a new collection of five sophisticated and glamorous velvets, all with a thoroughly modern point of view. Refined and luxurious, these new velvets have been inspired by the simplicity of geometry, all interpreted in shimmering silk, cotton, viscose or bamboo. Richly hued and textured, each of these designs will add both pattern and polish to today’s urbane interiors.

Wallcoverings Spring 2008

Atelier Collection

The hand of the artisan is evident in this new collection of textural wallcoverings, presenting an array of options for creating embellished surfaces. Handcrafted papers using raised textures and patterns combine with the shimmer of gloss, metal and pearl, for dramatic matte and shine effects. Embroidery adds a new dimension to naturally textured materials such as sisal, raffia and jute. Embossed patterns recreate the luxurious look of silk and woven strié, but with the ease and versatility of a heavy vinyl wallcovering. This collection features seventeen new designs with a range of 2-6 colorways per pattern, providing many choices for creating layered surfaces in today’s interiors.

The Schumacher brand is known for textile and wallcovering design of the highest quality. Its signature looks encompass a diversity of design and include classic luxurious silks and European derived wovens as well as innovative modern designs gathered from sources around the world. Historic interpretations and reproductions, often in collaboration with museums and historic foundations, have also been a central part of the Schumacher heritage and continue in our collections today. The Schumacher brand has been a consistent resource for the essential needs of interior designers, from versatile sheers and solids to opulent textures and velvet plains.
