Schumacher’s sustainable fabrics include solids, stripes, checks and herringbone, luxurious velvets and micro fibers, all of which adapt easily to modern or traditional interiors. The collections feature linen, a natural non-allergenic fiber that can be finished without using harmful dyes or chlorine bleach; jute, a fully biodegradable, fast renewable fabric resource that provides natural UV protection; velvets from a mill that practices safe dying, bleaching and finishing processes; and suede made from 100% high-purity, recycled post-consumer/post-industrial polyester. Schumacher’s environmentally-conscious wallcoverings use all-natural materials, natural wheat-based glue and environmentally safe dying processes. The wallcoverings collection includes grasscloth, sisal, and paper weaves. “Natural, environmentally and socially resposible product offerings have been part of Schumacher’s collections for years,” says Corinne P. Kevorkian, president and general manager of Schumacher. “Now, by establishing the green leaf logo, we’re simply eliminating any guesswork on the part of designers and their clients in our showrooms.” Schumacher’s sustainable fabrics and wallcoverings offerings will continue to expand during 2008 and beyond. The mill weaving these wools uses clean energy sources, recycled materials and special water-treatment facilities. They are Oekotex 100 certified and bleached using hydrogen peroxide, instead of harmful chlorine bleach.
The mill weaving the luxurious Gainsborough velvet practices safe dyeing, bleaching and finishing processes. Hydrogen peroxide is used for bleaching. These 100% linen and 100% jute fabrics have been woven using environmentally safe dyes and hydrogen peroxide bleaching. The mill, which meets the industry’s highest standards for quality and social responsibility, uses special water treatment practices to avoid pollution from dyeing, bleaching and finishing.
New for Spring 2008, these fabrics are 100% linen, a renewable resource that is fully recyclable and biodegradable. The mill uses non-chlorine bleaching methods and natural washing for the finishing of these wovens. Linen is a naturally non-allergenic fiber and these linens were grown with minimal fertilizer or pesticides and have not been dyed or finished with chemicals. Also new to the Spring 2008 collection, these woven plains are made with 100% jute fiber, a natural, biodegradable and renewable material. A soft, water-based finish has been applied to these wovens and an environmentally safe hydrogen peroxide bleaching method was used on the white/ivory colorways.
These texture wallcoverings from Schumacher’s Natural Textures IV collection were manufactured using all-natural materials, natural wheat-based glue and environmentally safe dyeing processes.
